This is to be our "exciting" project for the summer of 2003. It is The MacMillan Bridge.
It is a private bridge for a customer that has a small island on Lake Cowichan. The bridge will be part of the driveway so it must be strong enough to support constant vehicular traffic. The bridge length will be 200 feet from shore to shore and 12 feet wide.

The first thing we have to do is get a proper base to start with. We dig down to the hardpan and then put a layer of gravel on top. The excavator has a compacter attachment that ensures a good solid base.

The excavator sure makes light work of the job. We put a layer of landscape fabric between the blocks and back into the grade to keep everything all tied together.

Now "Twinkie" gets in the action. She is a 1936 12 ton Lorraine conventional crane. We drive the pilings to "refusal" and then cap them with 10X12 timbers. 4X14 stringers are then used to span the bents.
